Developing the standards and supporting technologies to enable digital ways of working takes a great deal of effort from people with various kinds of experience throughout the industry. A large part of the buildingSMART Process facilitates the cooperation of industry experts - from owner/operators to designers, construction professionals, software developers, researchers, product manufacturers, and governments - to formulate standards which establish a common ground in the design, procurement, construction, and operation of projects. The key to the use of these standards is the creation and deployment of technologies, that support the standards, in software used throughout the industry.
Within buildingSMART International, the execution of that technically-focused effort is the charge of the Technical Director, the Technical Room, and the groups and teams within the community that each focus on various technical aspects. For the development of technologies like IFC and BCF, the buildingSMART community looks to the Implementation Support Group and Model Support Group.
